Why Right Now is the Right Time for Hadoop

Did you know that 80% of the world's info is unstructured, that unstructured data is growing at a rate 15 times faster than strucuted data, and that in this age of information explosion more than 90% of the data in the world has been created in the last two years alone?

Sameer Farooqui, Marakana's Big Data & Hadoop expert, who was recently interviewed on the Providing Cloudy Service podcast, discusses why right now is the right time for Hadoop. With ever-escalating value on data storage – it cost $10 to store 1MB in 1995, today it costs less than 2 cents to store a GB – Hadoop challenges the monolithic data storage model and takes advantage of the scale-out method of using 1000s of commodity servers to cheaply address challenges in the information age.
